Bacterial Communities and Disease Laboratory (BCD-Lab)

Bacteria live in complex microbial communities, which control every niche of the planet from oceans to soil but also our own bodies. Discovering molecular interactions among bacteria in these complex communities is critical for understanding their impact in natural environment or with the host.

In the MIMC laboratory, we investigate the molecular interactions that govern the organization of bacteria in microbial communities associated with the human body. We try to understand their biological function and their contribution to disease development.

Specifically, we investigate bacterial functional amyloids as scaffolding components of the bacterial communities. We investigate the processes governing the organization and assembly of these proteins and we try to understand their impact in the host.
